Acne – it always seems to pop up at the worst times, am I right?! With summer heat, weddings, grad parties, and beach time, no one should worry about those annoying spots. Turns out there is some science behind why we get acne…and where! Following something called face-mapping will show what your acne is trying to tell you and the signs to watch out for to have smoother, clearer skin in no time.
Skin’s main function is the ability to filter out impurities. Think of it as a detox system for your face! So, if that breakout between your brows or that bump on your chin keep showing up, it could be because of your internal health! This acne face map (from Skin Inc.) shows which parts of your face are impacted by your internal organs.
The biggest causes for these spots? Stress, dehydration, diet, and – yep, you guessed it – hormones. For example, if the area between your eyebrows flares up, your liver may be out-of-whack from late-night snacking, alcohol, or too much dairy. If your chin just won’t clear up, ease up on caffeine and sugar (and watch for your time of the month)! I consider myself a caffeine queen, so I, for one, will be reaching for more fruit-infused H2O! Yum!
CLEAR IT UP
Best practices for clearing your skin are avoiding high-sugar foods, watching for increased stress levels, and keeping hydrated. Try more leafy greens and water-filled fruits this summer at those BBQ parties and take time for yourself (I like to pamper with Enza Essentials’ Shea Body line)! Oh, and be sure to double cleanse to get that deep-skin clean.
If you have a pimple or breakout that you want to clear up, like, yesterday, try Enza Essentials’ Extraction System (the Spot Extractor is my fave) for happy, healthy skin. Also visiting your derm or aesthetician for a chemical peel can be SO helpful. Controlling your skin’s oil production is key in these summer months!
