MAKING THE SWITCH: COFFEE TO TEA

Is it just me, or is this year just flying by already? With the new year, I decided to work on some of my not-so-healthy habits. If you follow along on Instagram, you know how I (along with beauty bloggers everywhere) am a big fan of coffee and caffeine – but all those sugary drinks and loaded lattes truly take a toll on your body, lifestyle, and skin! So, just two weeks into 2017, I took the plunge on making the switch from coffee to tea.

Kicking the coffee habit

The smell, the taste, the warmth – I get it! It’s a challenge to even think of functioning without your cup of joe in the A.M. But with all that caffeine to start your day, an increase in testosterone and stress hormone levels can be leading to more breakouts in your skin. Yikes! Give your skin a break from the java, and you’ll start to notice a clearer complexion in no time.

Making the switch

OK, so you can’t cut the caffeine (or the Starbucks runs) altogether. I’m definitely not a fan of battling sleepiness and headaches! Try replacing your coffee with tea – it has about 1/4 of the caffeine you find in coffee, but it still keeps you awake! If you’re not really a fan of the taste of green tea or earl grey, mix in a little bit of honey or sweetener (but not too much, of course!) and think of the benefits you’re giving your skin:

  • wrinkle prevention,
  • a more even complexion and tone,
  • sun damage prevention,
  • reduced inflammation and redness,
  • and tea is PACKED with antioxidants for more hydrated skin!

The results

It’s definitely been a challenge these past few weeks without my usual morning (or afternoon) pick-me-up! However, I have noticed my skin has cleared up and my energy levels have remained consistent throughout the day – no 2pm Starbucks run to get in my way! My personal fave is green tea with a hint of lemon… it’s SO refreshing on these winter days!

Will I never drink coffee ever again? No. But I will be incorporating more tea on the reg to reap all the amazing skin benefits!
