Winter is upon us and the struggle to stay awake is so real. Shorter days (and less daylight) have truly taken a toll on my motivation levels! But if you’re feeling more sluggish than usual, you’re not alone. Here are 4 ways to wake up without coffee!
TAKE A HIKE
We all know that afternoon slump isn’t the easiest to combat. Luckily, taking a quick walk mid-day (especially if outside) can boost your heart rate and metabolism – keeping you awake! This easy exercise can also help fight those sugar cravings AND give your creativity levels an extra oomph – so that’s a win-win. Just pack some sneakers and headphones, and you’re set!
SING IT OUT
Here’s another way to use those headphones from above: Although this might not be something to start regularly at your workplace (but hey, I won’t judge!), singing along to just one song can instantly energize you! Even by tapping your toes along to a beat, your body and mind will feel more alert. So, go ahead, crank up that new Britney song.
With music on the outside, there’s also a way to channel energy from the inside – the ear! According to traditional Chinese medicine practices, massaging your ear could be your best bet to tackle your day caffeine-free. By moving your thumb and forefinger top-to-bottom on opposite sides of your ear, you can get some extra energy pumped into your system. It’s definitely worth a try!
CHANGE YOUR LIGHTING
Although the amount of daylight this season is significantly shorter, lighting still has a MAJOR impact on your energy levels. Blue light (like from your phone, tablet, or computer) can be your BFF or your enemy, depending on when you’re exposed to it. At night, blue light can negatively affect your sleep pattern, but, during the day, it can make you feel more awake by imitating outdoor lighting!
Most times, you’ve gotta fake it ’til you make it! By starting with brighter skin, you will look so much more awake (even if you didn’t catch the amount of z’s you wanted)!
