We all remember our teen years – an awkward time for our bodies and especially our skin. UGH. Breakouts became one of the biggest stressors during my teenage years, but they didn’t stop there. If you’re finding you still get acne in your adult life, you’re not alone! Here’s why you get and how to fix acne in your 20s and beyond.
Not getting enough sleep is a huge factor for your overall health but especially for your skin. Getting less than 6 hours a night can negatively affect the habits throughout the rest of your day. (Pillows can also lead to acne, so wash your cases regularly!) With enough sleep, you’ll awake refreshed with a little more of a glow.
If you’re lacking in sleep, you could be drawn to taking in more sugar to stay awake. Foods high in sugar cause more inflammation and damage your skin from the inside, out. Reach for fruits and vegetables high in vitamins to really keep your skin healthy!
Girl, take a break! Stress can lead to poor sleep and poor diet – which means nothing good for your skin. With exercise, journaling, or meditation, you can lower stress and anxiety levels, finding a proper balance to your mental and physical state.
If you find you break out more around that time of the month or only after eating certain foods, track it down! Slowly cut out dairy, for example, or know when your skin flares up most, and be ready to conquer these changes before they conquer your skin.
At the very least, show your skin that you care. Follow a skincare regimen to get your face clear and balanced in no time. First, start with a cleanser and a toner that match your skin type – you don’t want to try treating your skin without having a blank canvas first! Next, even if you have oily skin, it is SO important to moisturize. Then, be sure to wait to absorb all your prep steps. Finally, use an acne-specific treatment on your trouble spots.
