FIVE WAYS TO STAY SHINE-FREE THIS SUMMER

Even though the summer is coming to an end, the muggy weather isn’t quite over. Humid weather makes it hard to keep your skin shine-free, and this weather persists all the way into fall. My skin is very oil prone. When I get ready for my day, I’m always sure to check that my T-zone doesn’t look like it’s been dipped in fryer grease.

If you have skin like mine, you know that the heat, sweat and make-up can get uncomfortable and make you feel like a total mess. Here’s five of my fool-proof ways to stay shine-free this summer and for summers to come!

Switch Skin Care Systems

If you have oily skin, especially during the summer, you should switch to a system that fights acne. This is important, even if you aren’t necessarily acne prone. This is due to the salicylic acid found in anti-acne cleansers. Salicylic acid helps get rid of excess oil and sebum and helps keep pores clean by gently removing excess skin. This keeps you oil free throughout the day.

Wear Sunscreen

During these humid months, it could be better for your skin to skip moisturizer in the morning and try a good sunscreen to manage the moisture while protecting your skin from the harsh sun. A mineral based sunscreen that contains zinc and vitamins A, C, and E to moisturize your skin and without leaving behind an oily, acne-causing build up.

Exfoliate Regularly

Exfoliating is an important step in any skin care routine, but especially if you struggle with oily skin. If that’s the case, you should be exfoliating weekly, being sure to get rid of dead skin cells, prevent clogged pores, and regulate oil production. Try a gentile exfoliant, like my personal favorite, also packed with salicylic acid.

Skip Foundation

When it’s hot out, I hardly wear makeup. When I do, I always skip foundation. It feels heavy and messy after about an hour and all it’s doing is clogging your pores, creating more reason for your skin to produce oil. If you must wear it, switch to a mineral foundation that will help soak up the oil.

Spritz with Toner

One of my tried and true tricks is to use a cooling toner to spritz my face throughout the day. Witch hazel and calendula gently polish away oily build up. If you are acne prone, give this oil-free toner a try! Just a spritz when you start to feel like you’re about to melt will soothe the skin and dry it up in minutes.
