Pollution isn’t just bad for the planet, it’s slowly killing your skin too. Research has shown that air pollutants that we encounter every day (think about smog, car exhaust, even cigarette smoke) are causing your skin to age prematurely and can cause even larger problems, such as eczema, skin rashes and even skin cancer. Ouch!
The thing about pollutants is that they are small, 20x smaller than your pores. They don’t just hang out and build up on the surface of your skin, they actually dig deep into your pores causing dehydration and inflammation, eventually leading to lost elasticity.
So what can you do to stop this? Simple. Wash your face every day, and I mean really wash it. All you need is a mild cleanser packed with antioxidants (to prevent DNA damage and cell mutations leading to cancer) and gently rub it into your pores. You don’t want to scrub too hard, this will only exacerbate the problem. Then soak a cotton pad in an antioxidant- rich toner to help close up those freshly cleaned pores.
If your skin can handle it or if you live in a big city, using a gentile scrub (again, containing antioxidants) in the shower would also help really clear out those pesky pollutants and reverse the aging effects!
