Summer is here and so now is the time it’s more important than ever to wear sunscreen! Here’s my list of what you should and shouldn’t do when it comes to protecting your skin.

DO wear an SPF of 30 or higher. It is important to wear at least an SPF 30, as this blocks nearly 97% of UV radiation. I wear Enza Essentials Advanced Protection SPF 30 because it gives me the protection I need and the moisture I want without feeling greasy or smelly.

DON’T skip out on wearing SPF on cloudy days! Even though you may think you’re not being exposed to sun damage on overcast days, UV rays still go through clouds and will get your legs in that cute little sundress.

DO remember your ears and feet. These two areas are commonly forgotten when applying SPF but when they become sunburned, you definitely know it. Having to walk in shoes when the tops of your feet are sunburned may be the most underrated pain known to man. OMG.

DON’T forget to reapply. If you’ll be in direct sunlight for a longer period, reapply every 2 hours, and immediately after after swimming or sweating a lot.

DO put on SPF when you’re in the car. UV rays can easily pass through the windows of your car and damage your skin, so don’t forget your sunscreen for road trips!

DON’T forget your scalp. Sun exposure can do some serious damage on your locks, not to mention your scalp. With overexposure, your hair will become dry and brittle and your scalp can burn very easily. If you need a solution, check out my super simple DIY Hair SPF that I recently posted on the blog!

DO soothe your sunburn (UH-OH) with Nutri-Gel. Hopefully it won’t come to that, but if it does, also take an ibuprofen or aspirin to reduce swelling as well. I keep my Nutri-Gel in the fridge for an amazing cooling effect. And it’s only $15 through the end of this month!

DO keep in mind your skin type. Sensitive skin? Another reason I love the Advanced Protection SPF 30 is because it’s formulated with active ingredient Zinc Oxide – so it’s a mineral sunscreen that’s easy on sensitive skin and won’t make you break-out. It’s super lightweight and non-greasy.

DON’T forget your SPF ever again.
